“Journalist to Restaurant Owner

Iqbal Wahab's Inspirational Journey

Career Path: London school of Economics > Journalist > Opened PR Company > Launched Tandoori Magazine > Launched Restaurant

“I take young people on food education programmes around Borough Market"

My Story: I was educated in London at the London School of Economics. After working as a journalist in the national press for three years, I set up my own PR firm that specialised in food, drink and restaurants and then launched Tandoori Magazine. I sold the magazine to launch the Cinnamon Club, a restaurant and bar aimed to change the way we view Indian dining. I co-authored The Cinnamon Club Cookbook and then opened Roast, a restaurant and bar in Borough Market celebrating the best of British cooking with the best of seasonal British produce.

Funny Story: An onion bhaji walks into a pub and the guy behind the bar says: “I’m sorry sir, we don’t serve Indian food”
