“I Can't Wait to Get to Work in the Morning

David Morgan-Hewitt's Inspirational Journey

Career Path: Law and History at University > Waiter (holiday job) > Restaurant Manager > Managing Director

“I once read that if you really enjoy your job you will never do a days work in your life
I can honestly say that if I won the lottery tomorrow I would still come to work.  No amount of money could replace the feeling of achievement that my job brings to me every day of my life"

My Story: When I get out of bed in the morning I cannot wait to get to work.  You see I have the best job in the world.  I run The Goring - the last great privately owned hotel in London. During my holidays I worked in hotels and restaurants around the country.  When I got to London I found myself working in a small but well regarded restaurant in Kensington.  Following a few moves I finally came to The Goring in 1990 and started as the Restaurant Manager.  Almost 20 years on I am still here - only now I run the company.
Our customers range from Kings, Queens, Presidents and Prime Ministers through to the more ordinary folk like us.

Funny Story: I will always remember the couple who got caught having sex in the bath and had got stuck together!!

Job:

Advice:
“When I was younger people tried to dissuade me coming in to the hotel industry.  They suggested I get a proper job.  My parents wanted me to be a Barrister, my careers advisor insisted I went in to one of the professions and I wanted to be a Hotelier.  Fortunately I got my own way.  Having studied law and history at university I came down to London to work in a restaurant.
Great hotels provide unforgettable experiences. If you come and work in our industry you will have the opportunity to create other peoples unforgettable memories."

UK

The Fun Stuff:

“I am a Tennis fan especially Federer and England Cricket supporter"
